PLDT to conduct emergency maintenance of submarine cable

Digital service provider PLDT Inc. released an advisory informing its customers of emergency maintenance in one of its submarine cable systems in the Asia-America Gateway. The maintenance is scheduled to start Sept. 26, Friday, 9 am. and is expected to be finished Sept. 30, Wednesday, 5 a.m. (Philippine Standard Time).

Customers may experience a slower internet than usual but the telco assured that it had put in place contingency measures to ensure continued connectivity especially for children who are having online classes.

“We have identified alternative cable systems to keep our connectivity resilient,” the statement said. “We have also adopted measures such as traffic rerouting and local caching, ensuring that most frequently downloaded content is located in the Philippines. Students can still do their online studies and exams, and users in homes and businesses can go about their normal internet-based activities during this time.”
