PLDT Inc. has reduced the cost of its material losses by over 50% from 2022 to 2024 by working closely with communities and using technology to secure its network.
Through its Asset Protection & Security Risk Governance (APSRG) group, PLDT partnered with barangays, local governments, and law enforcement to guard against theft, vandalism, and damage from natural disasters. The goal is to keep its infrastructure safe and running smoothly.
“Community engagement is at the heart of our security strategy,” said Leo Gonzales, vice president and head of Property Facilities and Asset Resiliency Management. “With partners in barangays, military, police, and local government, we harness ‘force multipliers’ to protect critical telco assets in high-risk areas.”
Strengthening partnerships
Gonzales also emphasized that by strengthening local partnerships, conducting anti-fencing initiatives, and equipping our community partners with essential tools, the company creates a security network that extends far beyond its personnel.
In 2024, PLDT recorded more than 2,000 collaborative efforts, most of which involved barangay-level engagements. While the number of incidents remained steady over the past two years, the actual cost of damage fell significantly, showing the results of these efforts.
PLDT also expanded its use of technology through its 164 Security Command Center. The center leads emergency responses, shares intelligence, and now uses a real-time dashboard to track security activities and respond faster to threats.
“Our commitment to protecting company assets goes beyond our direct security personnel,” said Col. Willie Gonio, head of Security Central Command and Administration Center at PLDT. “By engaging communities and strategically deploying technology, we are creating a more comprehensive and responsive security ecosystem.”
