Honor Pad X9a Main - Back End News

I’ve been looking for a device that I could carry around during press conferences to take down notes that is not too small (smartphone) and not too big (laptop). And I think I just found one with the Honor Pad X9a. And that is also partly because the unit I got had a keyboard.

The tablet market is crowded with devices that try to be everything to everyone. Honor Pad X9a takes a different approach,  instead of chasing the highest specs or the lowest price, it aims to deliver a balanced mix of performance, display quality, portability, and battery life at a midrange price point. On paper, it has the right ingredients: a high-refresh-rate screen, a capable Snapdragon processor, LTE connectivity (optional), and a large battery. But how does it perform in real-world use? Let’s dive in.

The Honor Pad X9a is built with portability and comfort in mind. Measuring 267.3 mm wide, 167.4 mm tall, and just 6.77 mm thick, it is impressively slim for its size class. At 475 g for the Wi-Fi model and 480 g for the LTE variant, it strikes a good balance between being lightweight and feeling substantial. It’s easy to carry in a backpack or tote bag and comfortable enough for one-handed use when reading or browsing.

The tablet’s thin bezels give it a modern look, and the screen-to-body ratio of 86% means more display in a compact footprint. The metal-like finish adds a touch of sophistication, while remaining durable enough for daily handling. The physical buttons, which are power and volume, are placed within easy reach and have a reassuring click.

Display

Front and center is an 11.5-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1504 × 2508 pixels, giving a crisp 255 PPI. This makes text sharp and images detailed, ideal for reading e-books, taking notes, or streaming video. The panel is bright enough for most indoor environments, with a 400-nit typical brightness. While it handles indirect sunlight well, strong glare outdoors can still affect visibility.

The display supports 1.07 billion colors (achieved through 8-bit hardware and software dithering), which results in vivid, lifelike visuals. Whether you’re watching videos or editing photos, the color reproduction feels rich without being oversaturated.

A key feature is the 120Hz refresh rate, with options to switch to 90Hz or 60Hz for battery savings. At 120Hz, animations and scrolling feel noticeably smoother, making web browsing and app navigation more enjoyable.

Performance

Powering the Honor Pad X9a is the Snapdragon 685 4G Mobile Platform, featuring an octa-core CPU (4x Cortex-A73 at 2.8GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 at 1.9GHz). While not designed for heavy-duty gaming or demanding video editing, it handles everyday tasks with ease. Apps open quickly, switching between them is fluid, and split-screen multitasking is generally smooth.

Light to moderate gaming is possible, casual titles run well, and even some more graphics-intensive games can be played at lower settings without stutter. However, if gaming is your main use case, you’ll need to manage expectations, but it is still doable.

The tablet runs MagicOS 9.0, based on Android 15, which brings a clean interface and useful multitasking features. Honor includes some pre-installed apps, but the interface remains uncluttered, with an emphasis on gesture navigation and customization.

The Honor Pad X9a’s camera setup is functional rather than flashy. On the back is an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. It produces decent shots in well-lit conditions, fine for scanning documents or capturing quick reference photos. Low-light performance is limited, with noticeable noise.

The 5MP front camera (f/2.2) is well-suited for video calls and online classes. It’s sharp enough for clear face-to-face conversations, though colors can appear slightly muted. Both cameras are capable for their intended uses but aren’t meant to replace a smartphone camera.

Battery

One of the highlights of the Honor Pad X9a is its 8,300 mAh battery (rated capacity 8,200 mAh). With moderate use such as web browsing, streaming, and light productivity, it easily lasts a full day, often stretching to a day and a half. Lowering the refresh rate from 120Hz to 60Hz extends battery life even further.

Charging is handled via the included USB-C cable and charger. While not the fastest in the market, the charging speed is reasonable for the battery size. Overnight charging ensures you start the day with a full battery.

Connectivity is another area where the Pad X9a offers flexibility. The Wi-Fi model supports Wi-Fi 5 with dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) support, ensuring stable connections for streaming and downloads. The LTE model adds mobile data capability, handy for on-the-go users who don’t want to rely solely on Wi-Fi.

Bluetooth 5.1 is supported, with compatibility for BLE, SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. This makes it easy to pair with wireless headphones or speakers for high-quality audio.

In the box

The Honor Pad X9a’s packaging is minimal but complete. Inside, you’ll find:

The inclusion of a charger is welcome, given that some devices now omit it.

In daily use, the Honor Pad X9a feels like a device designed for balanced performance rather than extremes. The large, high-refresh-rate screen makes reading and watching content enjoyable. The slim form factor and light weight make it practical for extended sessions, whether you’re catching up on news, attending online meetings, or sketching with a third-party stylus.

For students, the combination of decent processing power, long battery life, and good screen quality makes it a reliable study companion. For professionals, it works well for document editing, presentations, and video conferencing, though it’s not a replacement for a full laptop for heavy workloads.

Pros

Could be better

The Honor Pad X9a doesn’t aim to dominate any single category, but it succeeds in offering a well-rounded, dependable experience for a wide range of users. Its slim build, large high-refresh-rate display, and strong battery life make it ideal for media consumption, remote learning, and light productivity. The LTE option is a nice bonus for those who need internet access on the move.

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced midrange tablet that can handle everyday tasks with style and efficiency, the Honor Pad X9a is worth serious consideration. It’s not a gaming powerhouse or a pro-grade creative tool, but for most people’s needs, it hits the sweet spot between performance, portability, and price.
