Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) unveiled “HuliScam,” a public reporting portal developed to counter text scams and phishing activities. Customers can report unsolicited messages, including the mobile number and embedded links, through the platform.

This initiative, part of PLDT and Smart’s ongoing efforts to fight mobile-related crimes, underscores the importance of collaboration between telcos and the public.

“Fighting scams and fraud requires collaboration,” said Jojo Gendrano, CISO of PLDT and Smart.

He highlighted that the portal is aimed at streamlining scam reporting, ensuring swift action on suspicious messages.

According to Smart, its commitment to protecting users extends beyond this new tool. The company recently activated a more advanced firewall, blocking nearly 300 million SMShing attempts in August alone. It also reported that over 845,000 mobile numbers associated with scams have been blocked since the start of 2024.

The introduction of enhanced SIM registration features, including live selfie verification, helps prevent fake IDs from being used in fraudulent activities. Smart has also launched campaigns to educate the public on recognizing scams, sharing tips to identify warning signs through the acronym SCAM. These steps are part of broader efforts to safeguard customers from growing threats in mobile technology.

For additional support, customers can report scams to Smart via social media pages or the HuliScam portal.
