Music streaming Spotify is introducing a new feature that lets Premium users in the Philippines add and customize transitions between songs in their playlists.

Called Mix, the feature is now in beta and allows users to control how tracks flow together. Aside from automatic blending, listeners can adjust volume, equalizer (EQ), and effect curves to create a more personal mix.

  1. To use the feature, users can:
  2. Open an existing playlist or create a new one.
  3. Select “Mix” from the toolbar to start.
  4. Choose “Auto” for an instant blend or customize transitions.
  5. Pick presets like “Fade” or “Rise” for different effects.
  6. Adjust settings using waveform and beat data to refine transitions.
  7. Save, share, or collaborate with friends who are also Premium subscribers.

Spotify said the feature also supports toggling, allowing users to switch between mixed and regular playback with one tap.

For users new to audio mixing, Spotify suggests:

  • Matching tempos and keys for smoother transitions.
  • Starting with transition-friendly genres like house or techno.
  • Considering playlist energy to guide mood and pacing.
  • Enhancing functional playlists, such as running or road trip mixes.
  • Adding cover art with stickers and labels available for mixed playlists.

According to Spotify, nearly 9 billion playlists have been created globally. With Mix, the platform said it aims to give listeners more creative tools to personalize their playlists.
