An all-female team of international spies takes on a high-stakes mission in “The 355,” an action thriller now streaming on Lionsgate Play.

The film follows CIA agent Mace (Jessica Chastain), who is tasked with retrieving a flash drive capable of hacking into any computer system. She enlists the help of retired MI6 operative Khadijah Adiyeme (Lupita Nyong’o), DNI agent and psychologist Graciela Rivera (Penélope Cruz), and German BND agent Marie Schmidt (Diane Kruger). Despite their rivalries, the four must work together to keep the dangerous weapon out of the hands of criminals who could use it to trigger global chaos.

“Well, I like the idea that the actresses are all the bosses of the film,” Chastain, who also produced the film, told Screenrant. “They’re the owners of the film. We raised the money on our own. We developed the script together, the characters together, we are the owners.”

“I’m a huge James Bond fan, and I love the spy genre in general,” Director Simon Kinberg, known for writing “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” told CBR. “The 355 is a different kind of spy movie, but it is a love letter to spy movies. I loved the idea of a female-ensemble spy movie. There are two things in there that are novel. One, there’s not a lot of female spy movies. But two, there are even fewer ensemble spy movies.”

Written by Kinberg and Theresa Rebeck, “The 355” is an independent production that brings together some of Hollywood’s well-known names in an action-packed adventure. Fans of espionage films can catch it on Lionsgate Play now streaming.
