The workplace dramedy “Madam” premiered on Lionsgate Play on Jan. 24, offering viewers a mix of humor, heart, and an unconventional story. Starring award-winning actress Rachel Griffiths, the series is inspired by real events and follows Mack Leigh, a wife and mother who finds herself in a tough situation but takes an unexpected path to rebuild her life.

After hitting rock bottom due to financial struggles and a cheating husband, Mack, played by Griffiths, decides to open an ethical brothel called “Sweethearts” in her small New Zealand town. This twist on traditional narratives blends sharp humor and feminist themes, presenting Mack’s journey to reclaim her sense of self.

“She had an unpublished autobiography that was so helpful,” Griffiths said, referring to Antonia Murphy, the real-life inspiration for Mack. “As an actor, you dream of someone to go: ‘Here’s 200 pages of everything that has ever happened.’”

The series has already received international recognition, winning Best Creation at the Monte Carlo TV Festival and Best Comedy Series at the Berlin TV Series Festival.

The cast also includes Martin Henderson, whose comedic performance brings another layer to the show.

“He’s like Jason Bateman: he’s ‘douchebag funny.’ You see exactly what he is doing but still don’t want to kill him,” Griffiths said of her co-star.

Madam” is now available through Lionsgate Play via PLDT Home and Smart.
