For Women’s Month, Sun Life Global Solutions (SLGS) Philippines, the Global Capability Center (GCC) of global insurance and asset management firm Sun Life, has unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at furthering the advancement of women in technology and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) within the organization.
The DEI&B programs, which include the entire employee life cycle from attraction to retention, are part of SLGS’s efforts to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace environment. Aligned with Sun Life’s DEI strategy and informed by employee feedback gathered through various platforms, including inclusion surveys and quarterly assessments, these initiatives aim to build upon SLGS’s existing gender diversity initiatives.
“Our diverse workplace inspires creativity, fosters innovation, drives values, and creates a positive impact,” said Tarun Sareen, managing director of Sun Life Global Solutions. “We own the opportunities and power through challenges to do the best work of our lives as well as inspire others.”

While SLGS currently has a gender diversity rate of 55%, the organization remains dedicated to increasing gender diversity, particularly in technology-related roles. To address this, SLGS has implemented measures to mitigate bias in the hiring process. Over the past year, the Talent Acquisition team has spearheaded awareness campaigns, partnered with universities, and introduced policy changes aimed at removing bias from candidate evaluations.
Empowered employees
SLGS is also investing in the development and support of current employees through programs such as the women’s network “SunStree,” which offers mentorship opportunities for women aspiring to leadership roles.SLGS is pioneering a reverse mentorship program pairing millennials and Gen Zs with company leaders to facilitate cross-generational learning and understanding.
“Our goal is for every employee to feel heard and empowered to make a positive impact, for our clients and the community,” said Nathalie Bernardo, VP and site head, SLGS Philippines. “When we feel that we truly belong in our workplace, we feel more connected, committed, and valued. This is why we want to ensure a psychologically safe environment for everyone, where we bring our whole selves to work, where we are authentic and express our unique perspectives.”
