Synology introduces compact, energy-efficient DiskStation DS119j

Synology Inc. launched DiskStation DS119j, a compact and energy-efficient 1-bay NAS (network-attached storage) designed to be the ideal first NAS for anyone.

“There are many users who are not familiar with a NAS yet, nor aware of the benefits of having one at home,” said Michael Wang, product manager at Synology Inc. “DS119j is aimed to be an ideal choice for first-time NAS users with versatile software features, an intuitive user interface, and an affordable price point.”

NAS is a network-connected device that provides a central location of data for multiple users.

Tailor-made for the home environment, DS119j only consumes 5.01 watts in hard drive hibernation mode, and 10.04 watts under full operation — a laptop can consume upwards of 45 watts. Furthermore, its noise dampening design makes it whisper-quiet compared to some PC counterparts.

DS119j (P6,499) also serves as a home multimedia server. Users can easily share photos with friends, or stream music and video files to mobile devices or multimedia players. It runs on DiskStation Manager, the advanced and intuitive operating system for Synology NAS devices, with various applications offered to enhance work productivity.

Synology creates network attached storage, IP surveillance solutions, and network equipment to manage data, conduct surveillance, and manage a network in the cloud era. By taking full advantage of the latest technologies, Synology aims to help users centralize data storage and backup, share files on-the-go, implement professional surveillance solutions, and manage a network.
