Equinix, a data infrastructure company based in Redwood City, California, has acquired three Philippine data centers from Total Information Management (TIM), a technology solutions provider.

This move marks Equinix’s entry into the Philippine market and is part of its broader expansion strategy in the Asia-Pacific region, following its recent entries into Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as being awarded additional data center capacity in Singapore.

“This expanded digital infrastructure will also enable our customers to thrive and embrace digital transformation, harnessing the potential of emerging technologies like (artificial intelligence) AI,” said Jeremy Deutsch, president of Asia-Pacific at Equinix. “This acquisition perfectly aligns with our vision to extend our leadership in the Asia-Pacific region, while driving the acceleration of the digital economy.”

The acquisition includes three data centers, one of which recently opened in Manila. These facilities will equip Equinix to meet the digital needs of both local and international businesses in the Philippines. Enterprises, cloud and IT service providers, and network service providers worldwide can utilize Platform Equinix. TIM’s existing customers, including those in network and financial services, will gain access to Equinix’s global network of over 10,000 companies, featuring more than 2,000 networks and 3,000 cloud and IT service providers.

Carrier neutral

“While TIM will remain as a system integrator, helping our customers through their digital transformation strategies, this deal will bring immense benefits to our customers,” said Jose Mari Antunez, chair of Total Information Management. “Equinix will provide enhanced connectivity, scalability, and access to a thriving ecosystem of partners.”

The three carrier-neutral and interconnection-rich data centers include more than 1,000 cabinets of capacity, with land available for further expansion. These centers will service both local and global customers looking to expand into the Philippines.

Currently, Platform Equinix spans 260 data centers across 71 metros in 33 countries. In the Asia-Pacific region, Equinix operates 56 data centers in 14 key metros across Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore, including the recently opened data centers in Johor (JH1) and Kuala Lumpur (KL1) in Malaysia.
