Xiaomi debuts new sub-brand Pocophone, runs on Snapdragon 845 platform

Xiaomi introduced Pocophone, the latest addition to its family of smartphones, at a global launch a few days ago.

For its initial offering, it named its first smartphone as Pocophone F1, which carries a price tag starting at P17,990. Worldwide first impressions have been favorable with a special mention on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 platform.

Xiaomi has been visibly aggressive in the smartphone space coming up with models with high-end specs but with reasonable prices.

The media release states that the “Pocophone seeks to redefine the smartphone experience by offering the ultimate performance with no frills.” The brand promises to offer “an unbelievably fluid and powerful experience like no other.”

The 6.18-inch, 2,246 x 1,080 pixel screen, Android smartphone runs on the same processor as the Note 9, which is the Snapdragon 845. The cameras are at a 12.5-megapixel rear camera and 20-megapixel selfie camera. For lowlight conditions, there is the IR-based face recognition technology (this may be available in some regions when the phone gets an update).

As it has become the norm in most smartphones, Pocophone has a fingerprint sensor and also has a USB Type-C port.

Pocophone 1 also features  LiquidCool Technology cooling system, which distributes the heat from the processor to other parts of the phone, to prevent it from overheating.

Pocophone F1 will retail in the Philippines at P17,990 and P19,990 for the 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB versions, respectively. It will be initially available on Lazada and will soon roll out on Mi authorized stores.
