Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how organizations manage Privileged Access Management (PAM), making it more efficient and secure. By automating key tasks, AI is helping companies strengthen cybersecurity and respond faster to evolving threats.
“AI gives organizations advanced insights to help clients,” Jude Kannabiran, VP of Delinea for APJ-Asia, said in an interview with Back End News during the VSTECS CXO Tech Summit in Boracay. “One key improvement is better policy management.”
AI makes it easier to create and update security policies, ensuring they stay effective against new risks. This automation reduces the workload on IT teams and ensures consistency in managing access to sensitive systems. By taking over manual processes, AI allows teams to focus on higher-level tasks.
PAM vendors are also reaping the benefits. AI speeds up automation, completing tasks that used to take a lot of time and effort. This not only increases productivity but also strengthens overall security.
“AI is transforming PAM into a must-have tool for modern businesses,” Kannabiran explained.

Rethinking protecting identities
However, while AI enhances security, it also introduces challenges. Hackers are now using AI to launch more sophisticated attacks, like faster brute-force attempts, which can breach systems in days instead of months.
“This forces organizations to rethink how they protect identities,” Kannabiran noted.
Traditional PAM methods like rotating passwords, monitoring sessions, and generating audit logs are no longer enough to keep up with these advanced threats. Organizations need smarter systems, including role-based access control (RBAC) and real-time activity monitoring. These tools help evaluate not just who is accessing a system, but also what they are doing inside it.
“AI helps detect unusual or risky actions, such as unauthorized attempts to change sensitive data,” Kannabiran said. “Automated tools are essential because the sheer amount of data and potential vulnerabilities cannot be handled manually.”
Although implementing PAM itself hasn’t become more complicated, AI-powered threats demand new approaches. Advanced strategies are now crucial to protect against these modern risks. By adopting AI-driven tools and techniques, organizations can address today’s cybersecurity challenges with greater precision and speed, ensuring robust protection against increasingly complex attacks.
