Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology division of Alibaba Group, has partnered with Mapúa University to train Filipino students in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing. The goal is to support the country’s growing need for skilled digital workers and prepare students for careers in the technology sector.
The partnership falls under the Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP), which provides access to training courses, hands-on labs, and certifications in AI and cloud computing. Faculty and students at Mapúa will also be able to use Alibaba Cloud resources to support classroom learning and research.
“Our partnership with Alibaba Cloud allows us to integrate world-class AI and cloud computing technologies into our learning ecosystem, ensuring that our graduates are not only ready for today’s industry needs but are also equipped to drive innovation in an AI-powered world,” said Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo, president and CEO of Mapúa University.
The program supports the Department of Science and Technology’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS Ph), which highlights the importance of workforce development to help the country compete in the digital economy. It encourages universities to offer short AI courses and certification programs that help students and workers build useful technical skills.
Training the workforce of tomorrow
Alibaba Cloud says the partnership aims to connect academic training with the needs of businesses. Students will be introduced to both basic and advanced topics in AI and cloud computing, including how these technologies are used in real-world settings.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry, equipping students with the skills and certifications needed to excel in the rapidly evolving digital landscape,” said Allen Guo, general manager for the Philippines, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. “Together, we are building a foundation for innovation and growth in the Philippines.”
Alibaba Cloud Academy supports the initiative with over 250 training courses and 270 online labs in 19 languages. It has worked with more than 110 schools and organizations worldwide and trained over 500,000 individuals.
