The Philippine Payments Management Inc. (PPMI) and Ant International’s unified wallet gateway, Alipay+, have connected Alipay+ to QR Ph, allowing international visitors to pay Filipino businesses using supported e-wallets and banking apps from their home countries.
Customers can scan a merchant’s existing QR Ph code and pay through an Alipay+ partner app. Businesses do not need a separate QR code or payment system to accept these transactions.
The connection gives Filipino merchants access to Alipay+ users, including tourists and other international consumers. It could particularly benefit micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in travel, retail, food, and other industries that serve foreign customers.
Payments made through Alipay+ will be processed using the QR Ph network, the Philippines’ national standard for QR code payments. QR Ph allows customers and merchants using different participating banks and e-wallets to transact with one another.
“Through our partnership with Alipay+, we are extending that connectivity beyond our borders, enabling Filipino merchants, particularly SMEs, to serve international customers more seamlessly,” said Carmelita Araneta, general manager of Philippine Payments Management Inc. “This is an important step in bringing the benefits of digitalization into everyday commerce, while creating new opportunities for Filipino businesses to participate and grow in the global digital economy.”
The agreement supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ digital payments transformation goals as more Filipinos shift from cash to online and mobile transactions.
According to the BSP’s 2025 Report on E-Payments Measurement, digital payments accounted for 64.69% of retail transactions by volume in the Philippines. Transactions made through QR Ph increased more than 13 times during the year.
“Our role is to make it as easy as possible for a customer to pay with the mobile app they already use, while helping the merchant participate in a much bigger marketplace,” said Danny Chung, general manager of Alipay+ Global Growth Center, Ant International.
Alipay+ has connected with more than 10 national QR payment systems across Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America as part of its effort to make mobile payments work across borders.
The platform connects more than two billion consumer accounts and over 50 mobile payment providers, including e-wallets and banking apps. It also works with more than 10 national payment networks and QR and near-field communication merchants across more than 220 markets.
