Semiconductor company AMD has introduced the Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 field-programmable gate array (FPGA) family, designed to help engineers build systems that process large volumes of data across broadcast, industrial, medical, and testing environments.
The new family updates the existing Kintex FPGA line with improved memory, connectivity, and security features. The devices are intended for applications such as imaging systems, industrial automation, test and measurement equipment, and professional 4K and 8K media production.
AMD said the Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGAs are built to support data-heavy tasks. The devices include high-speed transceivers and PCIe Gen4 support that enable 4K video over internet protocol, multi-stream video capture, and precise media transport for broadcast and remote production. Increased memory bandwidth also helps speed up pattern generation and testing processes used in semiconductor inspection systems.
The FPGAs also support sensor connectivity for real-time imaging and control, which can improve performance in machine vision, medical imaging, and robotic systems. Designers can start development using the XCSU200P device under the Spartan UltraScale+ platform before transitioning to Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGAs expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The devices include integrated LPDDR4X, LPDDR5, and LPDDR5X memory controllers that allow systems to manage higher data rates while maintaining power efficiency and predictable performance. AMD said the new devices deliver up to five times more memory bandwidth compared with earlier models and up to two times higher channel density per PCIe interface. The company also noted that the devices provide increased embedded memory and digital signal processing capacity compared with competing platforms.
In terms of security, the devices support authenticated operation, encryption, anti-cloning protection, and secure key management. They also include cryptographic features aligned with Commercial National Security Algorithm (CNSA) 2.0 standards to help protect data and intellectual property in connected and regulated environments.
AMD said the Kintex UltraScale+ Gen 2 FPGAs are designed for long product lifecycles, with planned availability until at least 2045. The company said this helps manufacturers maintain regulatory compliance and reduce redesign efforts.
Simulation support for AMD Vivado and Vitis development tools is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026. Pre-production XC2KU050P FPGA samples are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, while full production is targeted for the first half of 2027. Evaluation kits for the new FPGA family are also expected to begin sampling in the fourth quarter of 2026.
