Ant International open-sources Agentic Mobile Protocol for AI payments

Ant International has open-sourced a new payment framework designed to help artificial intelligence (AI) agents securely make transactions through digital wallets, banking apps, super apps, and wearable devices.

Called the Agentic Mobile Protocol (AMP), the framework aims to solve a growing issue in AI commerce: most existing AI payment systems still rely heavily on traditional card networks, while consumer payments in Asia and other emerging markets are increasingly driven by mobile wallets and super apps.

The company said AMP allows AI agents to connect directly with mobile payment services without requiring merchants or wallet providers to overhaul existing systems.

The move comes as the global market for agentic commerce, where AI agents can autonomously buy goods or complete transactions on behalf of users, is projected to reach $28 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 46%.

Ant International said digital wallets are becoming key to this shift. Global digital wallet users reached 4.4 billion in 2025 and are expected to exceed 6 billion by 2030, representing more than 75% of the world’s population.

“An agentic protocol for mobile commerce that ensures superior efficiency and security results will be key for businesses large and small expanding into the world’s fastest-growing markets,” said Jiang-Ming Yang, chief innovation officer of Ant International.

AMP is designed to reduce friction in AI-powered payments. Ant International said the protocol can cut the number of steps needed to connect AI payment agents to digital wallets by 50% compared with traditional card-binding methods.

The company also introduced a money-back guarantee mechanism for payment partners in cases involving account takeovers linked to AI agent transactions.

Another feature allows AI payment agents to work across smartphones, smartwatches, augmented reality (AR) glasses, and in-car systems. Ant International said this is difficult to achieve with traditional card-based payment infrastructure.

AMP also includes a “Know Your Agent” (KYA) framework that verifies an AI agent’s digital identity and authorized capabilities before transactions are approved. A built-in “Agent Trust Rating” system dynamically assesses whether an AI agent can be trusted and determines the level of autonomy it can receive.

For high-frequency AI transactions, the protocol supports automated agent-to-agent (A2A) settlements, including nano-transactions as small as $0.000001 with real-time accounting and clearing.

Ant International said the technology is already being tested with partners connected to Alipay+, the company’s global wallet gateway platform. Alipay+ links more than 40 digital wallet partners, covering 1.8 billion user accounts and 150 million merchants globally.

The company is also working with Mastercard, Visa, and Google on AI commerce and payment initiatives.

For Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines, where e-wallet adoption continues to grow through platforms like GCash and Maya, the development could accelerate the use of AI-powered commerce tools inside mobile-first ecosystems.
