Apple revealed changes in its repair processes by introducing the use of used genuine parts, starting with select iPhone models this year. This move aims to offer customers and independent repair providers more options while maintaining user privacy, security, and safety.

By incorporating used genuine Apple parts, the tech giant seeks to minimize environmental impact and extend the lifespan of its products.

“With this latest expansion to our repair program, we are excited to be adding even more choice and convenience for our customers, while helping to extend the life of our products and their parts,” said John Ternus, senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, Apple.

Apple has developed a process to verify the authenticity of used parts and ensure they do not compromise device security or privacy. This includes implementing Activation Lock features for iPhone parts to deter theft and provide transparency regarding a device’s repair history.

Apple plans to expand its Parts and Service History feature to provide users with detailed information about the origin of replacement parts, distinguishing between new and used genuine Apple components.

This new development in Apple’s repair program aims to enhance access to safe and affordable repairs. With an extensive network of service providers and the introduction of Self Service Repair, which offers manuals and genuine Apple parts to experienced technicians, the company hopes to continue to prioritize customer satisfaction and environmental sustainability.
