Apple is set to bring a significant upgrade to its ecosystem by integrating ChatGPT capabilities directly into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, aiming to simplify user interactions with advanced artificial intelligence (AI tools).
Apple is trying to catch up in the generative AI (GenAI) game as companies have sped past the technology as soon as OpenAI revolutionized the use of technology in 2022. This enhancement, may allow Apple users to utilize ChatGPT for tasks such as image and document understanding without switching between different applications.
AI Assistance
The integration means that Siri can now leverage ChatGPT’s intelligence where appropriate, presenting users with responses generated by the AI directly within their usual workflows. Before sending any queries to ChatGPT, users will be prompted to approve the transmission of their questions, documents, or photos, ensuring control and transparency. Siri will present answers directly without needing external tools.
Apple is also embedding ChatGPT into its systemwide Writing Tools, available across its platforms. These tools will help users generate content for various writing tasks, whether composing emails, notes, or documents in third-party apps. ChatGPT’s image generation capabilities are being harnessed to create images in diverse styles, providing visual content to complement text effortlessly.
These enhancements are particularly evident in the latest macOS version, Sequoia, which introduces new features under the umbrella of Apple Intelligence. The systemwide Writing Tools include:

- Proofread Tool: Offers grammar and style checks.
- Summarize Tool: Condenses long texts into brief summaries
The new macOS Sequoia also introduces Image Playground, a feature enabling users to quickly generate creative images in animation, illustration, or sketch styles. This tool is integrated into messaging apps and is also available as a standalone app.
The Memories feature in Photos leverages Apple Intelligence to help users craft stories from their images and videos. By simply describing the desired storyline, users can watch as Apple Intelligence assembles the best visuals, organizes them into chapters, and creates a cohesive narrative movie. The Clean Up tool further refines these images by removing any unwanted background elements without affecting the main subjects.
User Control
When users access ChatGPT through Siri or the Writing Tools, their requests are not stored by OpenAI, and their IP addresses are anonymized. Users have the option to connect their personal ChatGPT accounts, which will apply their existing data preferences according to ChatGPT’s policies.
According to Apple, its Private Cloud Compute system also ensures that data processed by ChatGPT remains private and secure. This system allows the computational tasks to be balanced between the device and Apple’s dedicated servers without storing user data or making it accessible to Apple. Independent experts can verify these privacy promises, maintaining Apple’s high standards for data security.
This integration of ChatGPT, powered by the GPT-4o model, will be available to Apple users for free, with no requirement to create an account. For those who are ChatGPT subscribers, there will be additional features accessible through their connected accounts.
