Bayad, a payments center, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), is strengthening its advocacy for financial literacy through its “Bayad Sapat Dapat” program.

The “Bayad Sapat Dapat” program initiative is designed to instill essential financial skills in Filipino students, emphasizing prudent money management and economic sufficiency from a young age. The aim is to empower students and their communities to maintain financial resilience, particularly during challenging economic times.

“Our goal at Bayad has always been to elevate the standard of living for Filipinos,” said Lawrence Ferrer, president and CEO, Bayad. “By partnering with DepEd, we hope that we are helping shape future generations into confident decision-makers, equipped to handle significant life choices.”

Now in its fifth year, the program features a Financial Literacy Quiz Bee, which tests students on topics like financial management, savings, and prioritization. The most recent competition took place on May 3, 2024, at Mandaue City Central School in Cebu, organized in partnership with DepEd and Marylindbert International, Inc.

From a pool of 3,000 students across Region 7, 43 finalists were selected, with Shandy Monica Taborada, a Grade 12 student from Mandaue City Science High School, emerging as the champion.

The top performers also included Christine Ella Dabuco Fuentes from Lahug Night High School in Cebu City, who placed second, and Anthony Tenebroso from Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete Science High School in Negros Oriental, who took third place. Rounding out the top 5 were Jinky Casio from the Science and Technology Education Center in Lapu-Lapu City and Cherry Mae Decena from Mabolo National High School in Cebu City.

“DepEd remains committed to the Financial Education Policy,” said Leslie Joy Paña, principal at Mandaue City Science High School. “Programs like Bayad Sapat Dapat are vital as we work to nurture a generation of financially literate individuals. By understanding budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management, students can lay a strong foundation for long-term financial stability and independence.”

The “Bayad Sapat Dapat” program continues to support and educate students, preparing them for a future where sound financial decisions contribute to their overall success and well-being.
