The Philippines ranked 88th globally in the 2025 Coursera Global Skills Report, showing progress in Generative AI (GenAI), cybersecurity, and applied technology skills.
According to Coursera, a global online learning platform, the country saw a 383% year-over-year increase in GenAI course enrollments, outpacing the Asia Pacific (APAC) average of 132% and the global average of 195%.
“The Philippines is laying the foundation for a digitally confident workforce. AI is a clear priority for employers, and learners are stepping up by acquiring GenAI skills and industry micro-credentials to stay ahead,” said Eklavya Bhave, head of Asia Pacific, Coursera.
Low in rankings but shows potential
In terms of overall skills, the Philippines ranks 88th out of more than 100 countries and 18th in the Asia Pacific region. Filipino learners show 29% proficiency in business, 21% in technology, and 17% in data science.
In Coursera’s new AI Maturity Index, the country is at 60th place. This score measures progress in AI research, innovation, and talent development.
“From AI strategies to forward-thinking education policies, we’re seeing a strong national commitment to equipping Filipinos with the right mix of technical, business, and human skills,” Bhave said.
The growth in skills training supports national goals to upskill one million AI-skilled workers by 2028. About 86% of Filipino knowledge workers already use AI in their jobs, higher than the global average of 75% and regional average of 83%.
This trend is seen in course enrollment data: AI and machine learning rose by 307%, Curiosity by 74%, Customer Service by 12%, and Critical Thinking by 10%.
More learners aim for industry-ready skills
Filipinos are also focusing on job-ready programs. Enrollments in Professional Certificates grew by 23% year over year, showing that many learners prefer programs that offer real-world benefits.
Learners in the Philippines are building skills in software development, IT infrastructure, and campaign management. These areas reflect growing interest in roles that blend creativity, tech, and operations.
With 2.7 million learners on Coursera and a median age of 32, the Philippines has one of the region’s most active digital learning communities.
