Data now drives 87% of Globe’s total service revenues, reflecting how deeply digital use has become part of everyday life in the Philippines. This is up from 85% in the same period last year.

“Data is no longer optional, it’s essential,” said Carl Cruz, president and CEO of Globe. “And Globe is here to ensure every Filipino can move forward with confidence in a digital-first world.”

Mobile and corporate data make up over 83% of Globe’s total consolidated gross service revenues. Demand for older services like voice calls and SMS continues to drop, as people turn to apps, messaging platforms, and on-demand video services.

Fiber upgrades

As part of its shift to a more digital model, Globe is urging customers still using very high-speed digital subscriber lines (VDSL) to switch to GFiber for free. The move supports its plan to modernize its network using fiber, which promises better speed and reliability for home internet use.

Globe reports a more than 12x growth in GFiber Prepaid, with many customers consistently reloading their service. This trend points to a rising preference for affordable and flexible home internet.

Data from early 2024 shows that 91.4 million Filipinos are active on Facebook Messenger, choosing app-based chat over SMS. According to a study by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and De La Salle University, 67% of Filipinos now stream movies, while only 21% still go to cinemas. Another report shows that 73% of internet users regularly watch online videos.

Enterprises are also spending more on digital services, including cybersecurity and cloud tools, to stay competitive in a digital economy.

“This isn’t just a business transformation, it’s a shift to how we serve,” Cruz said. “We’re no longer just providing connectivity. We’re helping people and businesses make the most of the digital world.”
