Databricks, a provider of unified data analytics, introduced DBRX, a pioneering platform poised to democratize enterprise artificial intelligence (AI). DBRX, built entirely on Databricks, allows enterprises to craft custom, high-performing Large Language Models (LLMs), liberating them from reliance on closed models.

“At Databricks, our vision has always been to democratize data and AI,” said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO at Databricks. “We are doing that by delivering data intelligence to every enterprise — helping them understand and use their private data to build their own AI systems. DBRX is the result of that aim.”

Ghodsi emphasized three key reasons enterprises should consider DBRX. Firstly, it surpassed open-source models on state-of-the-art industry benchmarks at launch. Secondly, it outperforms GPT-3.5 on most benchmarks, signaling a paradigm shift as organizations transition from proprietary to open-source models. And thirdly, DBRX’s utilization of a mixture-of-experts architecture renders it exceptionally fast in terms of tokens per second, while remaining cost-effective to serve, thus setting a new standard for open-source LLMs.
