The Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) and the Land Bank of the Philippines (Landbank) have launched the improved i-TECH 2.0 lending program, offering interest-free financial support to help Filipino inventors bring their technologies to market.

The initiative aims to make financing more accessible while supporting the commercialization of locally developed inventions. It is part of the Department of Science and Technology’s efforts to deliver science-based, inclusive solutions focused on human well-being, wealth creation and protection, and sustainability.

“We’ve also waived interest charges, making the loans interest-free,” said Ma. Lynette Ortiz, president of Landbank. “Through these enhancements, we hope to see more Filipino innovators take the lead, transforming bold ideas into tangible solutions that uplift lives and move our country forward.”

The program is open to registered Filipino-owned corporations or partnerships holding valid intellectual property (IP) rights, such as patents, utility models, or industrial designs, with at least one year of validity remaining at the time of application. Applicants must also ensure that a Filipino inventor is a major stockholder or managing partner of the entity.

Originally launched in 2017, the first i-TECH program offered low-interest loans structured through a cost-sharing agreement among TAPI, Landbank, and the borrower. The updated version removes interest charges entirely and introduces a streamlined process, allowing technical and financial evaluations by DOST-TAPI, Landbank, and the Screening Committee for R.A. 7459 to happen simultaneously.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) also joined the initiative.

“Through this partnership, we are committing to a framework that will unlock new opportunities for our PEZA-registered enterprises while empowering Filipino inventors to actively participate in the ecozone value chain,” said Deputy Director for Policy and Planning Anidelle Joy Alguso.

As of this year, DOST-TAPI and Landbank have supported six Filipino inventors through the program.
