The Strategic and Collaborative Alliance for Leveraging Ecosystems of Startups – National Capital Region (SCALE NCR), formed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), has introduced initiatives aimed at enhancing Metro Manila’s startup environment.

The initiative is focused on the NCR Local Government Unit (LGU) Mapping, led by De La Salle Animo Labs. This project will assess 17 cities in the region to identify collaboration opportunities, supporting the development of a five-year Startup Development Roadmap. It is part of DOST’s Regional Startup Enablers for Ecosystem Development (ReSEED) Program.

The mapping will evaluate elements such as startup counts, incubators, accelerators, and programs in each LGU.

“By empowering more startups to take root and flourish, we aim to create a ripple effect that will inspire a new wave of innovation and strengthen our economy,” said Russell Pili, chief science research specialist, DOST-PCIEERD.

SCALE NCR announced the Startup Institute, launching in September 2024, which will offer training to early-stage startups. The NCR Investors Network is also being established to connect startups with potential investors and provide insights into investment trends.

SCALE NCR will host the NCR TBI Summit in October 2024, focusing on collaboration and innovation for startups and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in urban settings. The summit is set to further boost Metro Manila’s status in the global startup ecosystem.
