The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Japan-based AI company rinna Co. Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the government agency’s first artificial intelligence-powered (AI) assistant in the hopes of making its services faster and easier to access.
Project TRINA, or Trade and Industry Assistant, will feature a 24/7 conversational AI avatar on the DTI website that serves as a one-stop support tool for the public, reducing the need for in-person visits or manual searches.
“With Project TRINA, we are introducing a new technology that allows people to access DTI services anytime, in a way that feels as natural as talking to a real person, breaking down barriers for users who may not be tech-savvy,” said Trade Secretary Cristina Roque.
The AI assistant will respond to queries on trade, micro, small, and medium enterprise development, consumer rights, and investment policies.
TRINA can simulate human interaction in English and Tagalog through voice-enabled and emotionally intelligent responses, designed to help users with limited digital skills.
In the next phase of the project, DTI plans to expand TRINA’s capabilities so that its frontline offices can develop specialized AI assistants to handle tasks such as applying for a license, registering a business, or filing a consumer complaint with the appropriate office.
