Users of Facebook and Instagram from some parts of the world have not been able to access social media sites for a few hours now. Some reports say that there are users that are able to log in but certain features could not be accessed.
Before, it would only be just Facebook or just Instagram that suffered outages. But this latest incident has all Facebook-owned apps — Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — experiencing massive and hours-long downtime.
Facebook is yet to reveal the cause but has informed users of the situation in its Twitter profile.
Some WhatsApp users in certain countries were still able to use the app until it ceased sending messages. Messenger users, on the other hand, are able to use the app but not on the desktop.
Instagram features such as Stories is also inaccessible while others cannot send direct messages.
BBC reported that the problem was global according to DownDetector, a third-party outage map that monitors posts on social networks for users posting if there is an outage in service of social networks.
There are a lot of speculations on Twitter that range from hilarious to serious concern that this must be political given the enormity of the affected users and countries.
