Far Eastern University Institute of Technology (FEU Tech) is working with OpenAI to shift toward an AI-native university, giving more than 14,000 students, faculty members, and staff access to enterprise AI tools across learning and operations.

The collaboration includes OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu and Codex, which will be deployed across FEU Tech’s academic and administrative systems. The tools are designed for secure, institution-wide use, covering tasks such as studying, research, teaching support, student services, and productivity.

This is part of a bigger redesign of how the university teaches and operates, with artificial intelligence (AI) integrated across the student lifecycle, from onboarding to graduation and career preparation.

“AI is no longer an optional skill for students or faculty. The opportunity here is leadership,” said Benson Tan, senior executive director,  FEU Tech. “We are not reacting to AI. We are defining how AI is used responsibly in Philippine higher education. By working closely with OpenAI, this collaboration allows us to provide institution-wide access to ChatGPT Edu, a secure, managed version designed for universities. That means students, faculty, leadership, and staff can use it responsibly within guardrails aligned to our policies.”

In classrooms, students will use AI tools under faculty guidance and academic standards. FEU Tech aims to help students develop technical skills while learning how to apply AI responsibly in real-world settings.

The university is also developing AI-based systems such as an AI Tutor built on faculty materials, an AI Classroom for interactive learning, an AI Skills Assessment tool to identify learning gaps, and analytics tools to support student success tracking.

Beyond teaching, FEU Tech plans to use AI agents for administrative work such as admissions, enrollment, records management, human resources, and curriculum planning. The goal is to reduce repetitive tasks and allow staff to focus more on student support and academic work.

“FEU Tech is taking an ambitious and forward-looking step by embedding AI across learning, campus operations, and student outcomes,” said Oliver Jay, managing director for OpenAI. “Education plays a critical role in closing that gap and preparing people for the jobs and opportunities ahead.”

FEU Tech will also roll out training programs, workshops, hackathons, and build sessions with OpenAI to give students hands-on exposure to AI tools and industry workflows.
