Finance app GCash has released a new short film highlighting the life and achievements of Adeline “Adz” Dumapong, the nation’s first Paralympic medalist. The film, part of the GCash Stories series, sheds light on the struggles and triumphs of para-athletes, emphasizing the financial and societal challenges they face.

Dumapong, a 19-time para powerlifting medalist, is celebrated not just for her athletic prowess but also for her advocacy work within the disability community. The film opens with a look back at the year 2000 when Dumapong received the news that she qualified to compete internationally.

Despite the excitement, she faced the daunting task of raising the necessary funds to participate. Through determination and the support of various agencies and individuals, Dumapong managed to compete and bring home the Philippines’ first Paralympic bronze medal.

Today, Dumapong continues to champion the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs). Her involvement with organizations like WOWLEAP Inc. has deepened her commitment to promoting inclusivity and support for the PWD community. As a project manager at WOWLEAP, she works on initiatives that aim to provide economic independence and social awareness for women with disabilities.

GCash, inspired by Dumapong’s story, has partnered with several organizations to further support the PWD community. These collaborations include a memorandum of understanding with the National Council for Disability Affairs to foster an inclusive workplace and a partnership with WOWLEAP, Inc. for capacity-building programs. Through these efforts, GCash aims to contribute to a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
