The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have partnered with GCash to pilot the National ID eVerify platform. This initiative aims to streamline the authentication process for government and private sector services.

“National eVerify will streamline processes and reduce inefficiencies, facilitating document processing and service applications from home,” said David Almirol Jr., Undersecretary for e-Government at DICT.

This initiative is expected to reduce the need for physical queues in government offices, fostering more accessible services for Filipinos.

The collaboration promises to provide a secure and efficient method for verifying customer identities, crucial for financial institutions like GCash. The platform simplifies the know-your-customer (KYC) process, enabling quicker and more secure account openings with fewer physical documents required from users.

“By integrating a centralized authentication process, we can ensure the legitimacy of our users through the National ID, advancing financial inclusion,” said Ren-Ren Reyes, president and CEO of GCash operator G-Xchange Inc..

The PSA’s Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) currently issues PhilIDs and ePhilIDs, which are used for GCash account verification.

“The Philippine Statistics Authority remains steadfast in its goal to register all Filipinos within the National ID system ensuring our unwavering commitment to providing a unified National identification system to all Filipinos,” said Undersecretary Dennis Mapa, national statistician and civil registrar general of the PSA.

GCash is actively working with PSA and DICT to ensure a smooth integration with the eVerify platform.
