Google released its Year in Search report for 2025, showing what Filipinos wanted to learn more about online. The lists include topics, personalities, and events that drew attention throughout the year.
Gemini AI was the top trending search. Its rise shows how more Filipinos now use AI tools for daily tasks, school work, and simple projects.
Election-related searches remained strong. Halalan 2025 took the second spot as people looked for updates on the national midterm elections held last summer. A series of earthquakes in the latter part of the year also pushed many to search for safety information and real-time alerts.
Entertainment continued to shape online searches. “Squid Game,” which released its final season earlier this year, ranked sixth overall. Roblox also stayed popular among young users. The game’s Grow a Garden mode placed third on the overall list.
Filipino athletes and artists made a mark. Tennis player Alex Eala ranked first under Female Personalities and fourth in the Sports category. She appeared alongside boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who placed second in Sports. In music, local singer Dionela topped the Male Filipino Personalities list. His song “Marilag” outpaced “Golden” from Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters, which ranked second and third in the Music category.
Online streaming platforms shaped this year’s viewing habits. The top Shows and Series list featured only titles available through streaming, mainly on Netflix. This trend matches findings from the 2025 e-Conomy Report, which said the Philippines recorded one of the fastest-growing online media sectors in Southeast Asia, with a 16% year-on-year growth alongside Indonesia and Vietnam.
Google said the Year in Search lists show how Filipinos use the internet to stay informed, follow local talent, and keep up with entertainment and technology trends.
