Globe, a telecommunications company, and GCash, a fintech platform, have completed the first phase of testing for Silent Network Authentication, a system that checks a user’s identity through the Globe network without using one-time passwords or manual input.

The proof of concept shows that Globe’s network can confirm whether the mobile number entered in an app matches the SIM card used in the current data session. This process happens in the background and does not require users to type in codes. It is designed to reduce risks such as phishing and SIM-related fraud. For GCash users, the change is meant to make logging in and doing transactions safer and more seamless.

“Security and accessibility must go hand in hand. This milestone is about building trust for the financially included,” said KD Dizon, VP and head of Globe Business. “By working with GCash, we are showing how network-level innovation can directly improve safety and convenience for millions of Filipinos who rely on digital platforms every day.”

Silent Network Authentication is part of G Verify, Globe’s verification and anti-fraud portfolio. G Verify uses network-based tools and application programming interfaces to help protect users and businesses from digital threats. Under this setup, the system confirms a user’s identity in real time when using apps such as GCash.

The test also follows global standards set by GSMA and CAMARA to ensure security and compatibility across networks. Globe has received GSMA certification for its Number Verification API and participates in the Bridge Alliance API Exchange, a regional effort that supports collaboration among telecom operators.

“At GCash, security and trust are at the heart of everything we do,” said Miguel Geronilla, CISO, GCash. “Partnering with Globe on Silent Network Authentication helps us give our users an extra layer of protection that works quietly in the background so they can focus on what matters most.”

The collaboration also supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ (BSP) push for stronger and more flexible digital security in the financial sector. The test follows earlier trials by Globe with a major financial institution, as the company continues to work with partners to improve digital safety for everyday users.
