Globe is dealing with a growing problem as it reported an average of 245 cable theft incidents every month in the first half of 2024, adding up to a total of 1,472 cases nationwide. The peak month was May, with 273 thefts reported.
The Greater Manila Area (GMA) saw the highest number of incidents, totaling 906. Other regions weren’t spared either, with the Visayas reporting 179 cases, Southern Luzon at 135, Northern Luzon with 125, and Mindanao at 119.
These thefts are more than just numbers; they’re causing real disruptions to internet connectivity, impacting customers who rely on Globe for work, school, and daily life.
“Cable theft not only disrupts connectivity but also sets back our efforts to expand the network. Each theft affects hundreds of customers, including businesses and essential services,” Joel Agustin, head of Service Planning and Engineering at Globe, said in a media release.
With connectivity becoming a crucial part of our daily lives, Globe is urging everyone to stay alert and report any cases of cable theft to local authorities.
