Film and TV fans in the Philippines can gear up for an exciting start to 2025 as the 82nd Golden Globe Awards airs live on Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. through Lionsgate Play. The highly anticipated event promises to celebrate achievements in film and television, with this year introducing two new award categories.

The Golden Globes, often called “Hollywood’s Party of the Year,” is produced by Emmy Award-winning showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner of White Cherry Entertainment, along with Dick Clark Productions. This year’s event will highlight 27 categories, covering both film and television.
In the film categories, top contenders for Best Picture include “The Substance,” “The Brutalist,” and “Dune: Part Two.” Performances by Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked”), Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”), and Ariana Grande (“Wicked”) are among the nominations to watch.
On the television front, series like “The Bear” and Netflix’s newcomer “Nobody Wants This” are vying for top honors. Notable acting nominees include Kristen Bell (“Nobody Wants This”), Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), and Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”).
This year marks the introduction of two new awards: Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television and Cinematic Box Office Achievement. Nominees in these categories range from Adam Sandler to blockbuster films like Wicked and Gladiator II.
