PLDT Home has launched the “Always On” modem, a hybrid device designed to ensure continuous internet connectivity. If the fiber connection is disrupted, the modem seamlessly switches to an LTE backup, minimizing interruptions to online activities.
“In the event of a service interruption, you don’t need to worry about losing access to the internet,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, senior vice president and head of Home Business Group at PLDT. “Even with a severed cable, you will stay connected and pursue your online activities with minimal interruption.”
The modem delivers speeds of up to 1 Gbps and includes unlimited LTE for backup. It also simplifies service restoration by automatically filing a repair ticket when fiber connectivity is down. PLDT shared that the concept for this service originated before the pandemic and has been developed in partnership with multiple vendors.
“We wanted to create a product that was responsive to the needs of our customers. We believe this will help elevate the internet standard in the country,” said De la Cruz.
How it works
When the fiber connection is interrupted, the modem automatically detects the issue and sends a repair ticket to PLDT. While waiting for resolution, the device switches to LTE, maintaining internet access.
Before installation, PLDT’s technical team ensures that the LTE signal in the customer’s area is strong enough to provide adequate backup service.
Currently, the “Always On” modem is offered as an add-on for a minimal fee, allowing more households to experience uninterrupted internet access.
LTE provides pretty decent connection that can serve internet needs especially for people who are working remotely or students taking online classes.
