Google (Philippines) and Commune Cafe collaborated to create a unique Filipino-flavored coffee, the Special Bibingka Latte, available from Sept. 12 to Sept. 26, 2024. This limited-edition drink, inspired by the traditional bibingka (rice cake), highlights the collaboration between the cafe and Google’s generative AI (GenAI), Gemini.
The Bibingka Latte combines Commune’s espresso and steamed milk with Filipino holiday flavors, including salted egg, queso de bola, and a torched banana leaf. Gemini, Google’s AI, played a role in generating innovative ideas that guided Commune’s baristas in crafting this seasonal beverage.
“Using Gemini streamlined our creative process significantly. Having access to Gemini’s vast knowledge made the whole process enjoyable and collaborative,” Rosario Juan, chief extractor of coffee at Commune Cafe, said in a media release.
As part of the partnership, Google trained Commune’s staff on GenAI, emphasizing how technology could enhance creativity. The baristas then participated in a workshop, applying what they learned to develop drink concepts with Gemini’s assistance.
“This project is a celebration of the delicious possibilities that arise when human creativity and AI blend,” said Mervin Wenke, head of Communications and Public Affairs at Google Philippines.
This AI-powered creation showcases the evolving relationship between technology and human creativity in everyday experiences like coffee-making.
