The Philippines will have its first-ever “Philippine Space Week” on Aug. 8-14, 2023, and will observe it every year as declared by the government, in the hopes of promoting space awareness among Filipinos.
At the recommendation of the Philippine Space Council, the Philippine government will enact Proclamation No. 302, issued on July 25 signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
“There is a need to promote space awareness, celebrate the significant contributions of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits, and impacts of space science and technology applications on the lives of Filipinos,” the proclamation reads.
The government said the declaration aims “to highlight the substantial influence of space science and technology applications on the socio-economic development of the country.”
Apart from the observance of Philippine Space Week, the Philippine Space Agency is also directed to identify the programs, projects, and activities for its yearly observance.
