Grab Philippines has launched the Grab CommuniKit, a visual communication tool designed to help deaf driver-partners interact with passengers more easily during rides. The initiative is part of the company’s efforts to make transportation more inclusive.
The Grab CommuniKit consists of postcards with commonly used phrases and requests related to ride details, drop-off points, and special preferences like air conditioning adjustments. The kit was developed in collaboration with DeafED Philippines, the National Association of Sign Language Interpreters, and the community of deaf Grab driver-partners to ensure it meets their needs.
“As we create livelihood opportunities for tens of thousands of our fellowmen, it is our goal to also empower marginalized groups such as deaf drivers to grab the same tech-enabled opportunities – serving as the catalyst for achieving their aspirations while they contribute as integral members of our fleet regardless of their disability,” Ronald Roda, country head, Grab Philippines, said in a media advisory.
One of the drivers using the kit, Vic Diaz, said that the Grab CommuniKit has enhanced his connection with passengers. It enables him to deliver the exceptional service they expect from a GrabCar ride. He also noted that it has also been invaluable for passengers with the same disability, as well as foreign passengers.

The compact kit is placed in the central console organizer of GrabCar vehicles. It also includes a whiteboard and marker, allowing passengers and drivers to write messages for better understanding.
Grab Philippines encourages both passengers and drivers to support this initiative by fostering patience, respect, and inclusivity in every ride.
