A survey by market intelligence firm International Data Corp. (IDC) found that 70% of organizations in the Asia Pacific expect Agentic AI to disrupt business models within the next 18 months. Two separate IDC reports highlight how this emerging technology, which goes beyond Generative AI, will transform business operations.

“Agentic AI workflows offer a more intelligent approach to adopting and integrating GenAI into business operations,” said Deepika Giri, head of research, Big Data & AI, IDC Asia/Pacific.

Unlike traditional automation, Agentic AI is designed to reason and make decisions, enabling businesses to boost efficiency, enhance customer engagement, and improve decision-making.

“The underlying data ecosystem must evolve to support agent-based architectures by enabling dynamic data pipelines that facilitate the seamless flow of multimodal data across systems,” Giri said. “The rise of multi-agent system architectures will represent the next major wave in AI adoption.”

Agentic AI may accelerate workflows

As companies shift toward multi-agent systems, the focus will be on building secure, scalable data ecosystems and automating processes at a higher level. Agentic AI’s ability to accelerate workflows and enhance decision-making is making it a key investment area for enterprises adapting to AI-driven transformation.

“Apart from customer care, which is the earliest adopter of agents, ITOps, and research and development are the top two areas in which agentic AI will be integrated across the enterprise,” said Surjyadeb Goswami, research director, AI & Automation, IDC Asia/Pacific.

However, Giri cautioned that security and trust will be critical in implementing these systems effectively.
