A recent report titled “Hiring, Compensation, and Benefits 2024,” released by Jobstreet by SEEK, saw that 71% of hirers surveyed categorized their workplace environment as “moderately stressful,” with 18% falling into the high-stress category.

Only 11% reported being in a low-stress environment.

Top stressors identified by hirers include heavy workloads (36%) and high-pressure environments driven by management expectations (28%). Factors like lack of appreciation, inadequate compensation, and prolonged working hours exacerbate stress levels, particularly in high-stress workplaces.

The Department of Health (DOH) underscores the escalating prevalence of mental illness, with approximately 3.6 million Filipinos grappling with mental, neurological, and substance use disorders. Against the backdrop of hybrid work models and digital advancements, organizations are urged to prioritize employee well-being to foster a healthier and more productive workforce.

Employees’ mental health

“We believe in the importance of prioritizing employee mental health and well-being as a strategic investment in organizational resilience and productivity,” said Dannah Majarocon, managing director, Philippines, Jobstreet by SEEK.

Recognizing the need to address these challenges, Jobstreet by SEEK advocates for hirers to place a premium on employees’ mental health. This approach is not merely a moral obligation but also a strategic investment in organizational resilience and productivity.

While some companies have initiated well-being initiatives, the report underscores the need for employers to intensify their efforts. Despite 62% of organizations launching new initiatives in the past year, only 58% of hirers believe their organizations are adequately supporting employees in managing workplace stress.

In response, Jobstreet by SEEK advocates for proactive measures such as regular wellness talks, employee assistance programs, and mental health days to bolster morale and alleviate stress. By fostering a supportive and healthy work environment, companies can not only retain top talent but also enhance overall organizational success and sustainability.
