A new report from Kaspersky, a cybersecurity solutions provider, reveals that managing IT security remains a key challenge for businesses, with productivity losses, complex systems, and data protection issues topping the list of concerns.

The annual Kaspersky IT Security Economics report surveyed IT professionals from companies worldwide, identifying the pressing challenges caused by increasing security needs. Downtime due to slow threat detection and response emerged as the biggest problem, cited by 38% of respondents.

“Attackers no longer rely solely on sophisticated exploits,” said Alexey Vovk, director of Information Security at Kaspersky. “A simple malicious link or a contractor’s vulnerability can have devastating consequences. A comprehensive approach to security is essential.”

Securing complex technology environments tied for second with data protection, both highlighted by 33% of respondents. Organizations pointed to issues such as device-related incidents and errors in cybersecurity tools, which hinder their ability to create reliable security systems. Data protection challenges stem from risks like lost devices and data leaks, caused by both external and internal factors.

Businesses are encouraged to equip IT teams with detailed threat intelligence to detect risks promptly.
