Lenovo supports One Meralco Foundation’s school electrification program

With the mission of providing smarter technology for all, Lenovo Philippines has pledged to donate laptops to support One Meralco Foundation’ (OMF) School Electrification Program.

OMF’s School Electrification Program aims to provide electricity to 10 schools across the Philippines in 2023 as well, with three schools each in Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat already enjoying the benefits of electrification. Plans are also underway to electrify two schools in South Cotabato and two more in Southern Palawan.

“Our company has always been driven to provide smarter technology for all,” said Michael Ngan, President and general manager of Lenovo Philippines. “However, we understand that without power, the potential of technology remains untapped. By providing laptops to electrified schools, we light the way for students and educators to access a world of knowledge.”

This is not the first collaboration between Lenovo Philippines and the OMF. The partnership began last year when the technology company, inspired by the School Electrification Program’s mission, reached out to the latter.

According to Ngan, the initiative resonated with their global mission of empowering underrepresented populations with access to technology and STEM education. As a result, teachers from schools in Iloilo received additional laptops from Lenovo.

“Being able to reach the most distant island schools in the country gives an even deeper meaning to our work in One Meralco Foundation,” said Jeff Tarayao, president, One Meralco Foundation. “We are happy that our partners like Lenovo, join us in these areas and contribute to the meaningful change that help improve communities/”

“To enable the productivity of our teachers and students, and their immediate communities by providing energy access to many underserved communities in the country is a great part of Meralco’s advocacy,” said Ronnie L. Aperocho, EVP and COO,  Meralco.
