MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 8400, a smartphone chip designed to enhance premium mobile experiences through advanced features like generative AI applications and improved gaming performance. The chip, which builds on the flagship Dimensity 9400, brings an All Big Core design to the premium market for the first time.

“The Dimensity 8400 allows users to enjoy cutting-edge features without sacrificing efficiency,” said Dr. Yenchi Lee, general manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit. “With this chip, we’re introducing innovative applications and boosting mobile gaming.”

The Dimensity 8400 features an eight-core Arm Cortex-A725 processor running at speeds of up to 3.25GHz, offering a 41% increase in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 8300. It also consumes 44% less peak power.

For gaming enthusiasts, the chip includes the Arm Mali-G720 GPU, which delivers smoother gameplay through technologies like MediaTek Frame Rate Converter and Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0.

The Dimensity 8400’s NPU 880 supports a range of generative AI (GenAI) applications, such as translation and contextual replies, while its Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) enables developers to create AI tools that adapt to user preferences.

Photographers can expect sharper images and better videos thanks to the built-in MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP, which supports HDR recording across zoom ranges.

The chip is also equipped with a 5G-A modem for faster connectivity and features like Network Observation System technology for seamless 5G/Wi-Fi switching.
