MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 9400+, a new mobile chip that promises to deliver better on-device AI, improved gaming visuals, and faster connectivity for Android smartphones. The latest addition to the Dimensity lineup is designed to support advanced AI tools while keeping power usage low.
The Dimensity 9400+ uses what MediaTek calls an “All Big Core” setup, made up of one Arm Cortex-X925 running at up to 3.73GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. This mix is built to handle both single and multi-core tasks, such as running apps and games, more smoothly.
“We’re making it easier for devices to offer smarter, more personal AI features without needing to connect to the cloud,” said JC Hsu, corporate senior vice president at MediaTek. “By working closely with developers and phone makers, we aim to bring faster and more private AI experiences to users.”
Support for LLMs
The chip includes the MediaTek NPU 890, which is built to support Large Language Models (LLMs) with better reasoning speeds. It handles functions like Multi-Token Prediction and FP8 inferencing and uses tools such as Speculative Decoding+ to speed up AI responses by up to 20%. MediaTek’s Agentic AI Engine also helps developers create more advanced AI features for smartphones.
Gamers will benefit from the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which introduces more realistic effects with Opacity Micromap support. This helps make details like hair, leaves, and shadows appear more lifelike without slowing the game. The updated frame rate converter can double the frame rate while using less power, improving overall gameplay.
Other features of the Dimensity 9400+ include:
- Phone-to-phone Bluetooth connections up to 10km
- BeiDou satellite support for faster location tracking
- Wi-Fi 7 with extended range and stronger coverage
- Dual SIM and dual data support for flexible connectivity
The first smartphones with the Dimensity 9400+ chip are expected to launch this month.
