A recent report from HID, a company that provides trusted identity solutions, reveals a shift in the security industry, with more organizations adopting mobile credentials and biometric technologies. The 2025 State of Security and Identity Report highlights how businesses are moving away from traditional access methods to embrace new, technology-driven solutions.

The report shows that 61% of security leaders see the rise of mobile credentials as a major trend, with nearly two-thirds either already using or planning to use mobile solutions. Biometric technologies, including fingerprint, iris, and facial recognition, are also gaining traction. Around 35% of respondents currently use biometric technology, while another 13% plan to adopt it, pointing to potential growth in this area.

“The security industry is at a pivotal moment where the integration of modern technology with existing infrastructure is no longer optional — it’s imperative,” said Ramesh Songukrishnasamy, SVP and CTO at HID. “The fact that 73% of security leaders now prioritize software-driven unified solutions shows we’ve moved beyond traditional siloed approaches. Organizations are demanding platforms that can scale with their needs while providing actionable intelligence.”

HID gathered insights from 1,800 partners, end users, and security and IT personnel from around the world. The study reflects a broader transformation in security approaches, driven by the need for unified platforms and new technologies.

Software-driven solutions that combine different data collection methods are becoming more important to organizations. About 67% of security leaders are working to integrate these solutions, with 73% saying that unifying data collection methods are either “somewhat” or “very important” to their operations.

Using AI agents in security operations

Interoperability has also emerged as a focus, with more than half of security professionals viewing open solutions as essential. Almost two-thirds of organizations and 73% of integrators and consultants are moving toward software-driven security systems that integrate physical and digital functions, like video surveillance and access control, into a unified platform.

AI agents are becoming common in security operations, improving efficiency and real-time data analysis. Around 50% of users report faster processes, while 47% see enhanced data analysis capabilities.

Despite the growing emphasis on technology, sustainability remains a consideration. About 75% of security leaders include sustainability when selecting solutions, but security and cost-effectiveness still take priority for 80% of integrators and consultants.
