The Philippine government has introduced a digital ID system through the eGovPH app, in partnership with identity solutions provider HID and FMC Research Solutions Inc. The app, developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), aims to streamline access to government services, offering a one-stop platform for national and local transactions.

HID’s goID Software Development Kit (SDK) powers the app, making it the first ISO-compliant digital government platform in Asia. Filipinos can now store and access various government-issued IDs, including the national ID and Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID, on their mobile devices.

“With the adoption of HID’s cutting-edge goID technology platform, the Philippine government is set to deliver innovative, secure, and user-friendly solutions that truly benefit its citizens,” said Craig Sandness, SVP and head of Secure Issuance and Citizen ID Solutions.

The integration is part of the country’s digital transformation strategy to enhance efficiency in government services and eliminate lengthy queues for ID applications.

So far, the app has over six million downloads, with a target of 10 million downloads in 2024. The digital national ID is accessible through the app, with 83 million IDs already generated.

ISO compliance

“This 2024, users will have the higher capability to access and store their government-issued identity documents, the first of which is the national ID,” said DICT Secretary Ivan Uy.

Uy highlighted the app’s ISO 23220 compliance, making it globally interoperable. This feature is benefits the approximately 10.2 million Filipinos living abroad, ensuring seamless verification worldwide.

The eGovPH app also simplifies government-related processes, including business registration, tax payments, social security benefits, and SIM card registration. Supported by HID’s goID technology, the app employs strong security measures like facial recognition and fingerprint authentication to secure users’ digital wallets.
