A family from the Philippines donated their ₱100,000 cash prize from PLDT Home’s One Mega Giveaway (OMG) to help communities affected by Typhoon Uwan.

Marlowe Monsanto and his family, the latest winners of the PLDT Home promo, decided to give the full amount to PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF). The donation will support relief operations for typhoon survivors and holiday assistance programs for displaced families.

“When we learned about the ongoing Uwan recovery efforts, we knew we wanted our winnings to serve a greater purpose,” Monsanto said. “Through this, we hope to contribute to rebuilding communities. That is enough for us.”

The Monsanto family recently subscribed to PLDT Home, which made them eligible for the OMG promo. After learning about the damage caused by Typhoon Uwan, they chose to use the prize to support families who are still recovering.

“This reflects our shared responsibility for community welfare,” said Esther Santos, president of PSF. “By donating their prize to support disaster-affected communities, their family is helping to bring stability back to other families currently rebuilding their lives.”

Santos added that the funds will be used to purchase relief packs and support logistics for areas badly affected by the typhoon. This includes transporting supplies and ensuring that assistance reaches families who need it most.

Typhoon Uwan is among several recent weather events that have affected communities across the country. Many families remain displaced, while others continue to repair damaged homes and livelihoods. Relief groups have shifted their focus from immediate response to longer-term recovery as the year-end season approaches.

PSF said its current efforts include providing basic goods, supporting community recovery activities, and helping restore a sense of normalcy for affected families during the holidays.

The One Mega Giveaway is a customer rewards program of PLDT Home. While the promo is mainly meant to reward subscribers, PSF noted that donations such as this show how private individuals can also take part in disaster response efforts.

The Monsanto family said they hope their decision will encourage others to help in simple ways when disasters strike. Their donation adds to ongoing relief work aimed at supporting families as they recover from the impact of Typhoon Uwan.
