PLDT and its wireless unit Smart have launched a digital upskilling initiative targeting women in need, geared toward preparing them for various tech-related roles and connecting them with potential employers.
This program falls under PLDT and Smart’s IDEATe (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy through Technology), aligning with the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
“As a digital services provider, we understand technology’s pivotal role in bridging societal gaps,” said Stephanie Orlino, AVP and head of Stakeholder Management Team at PLDT and Smart. “It’s our mission to drive digital inclusion among Filipinos, seeking tech-enabled solutions that offer livelihood opportunities, especially to vulnerable sectors.”

In collaboration with Filipina Homebased Moms (FHMoms), qualified participants from non-profit organizations like Life Haven Center for Independent Living (CIL), ATRIEV, and the Association of Women with Disabilities in Dasmarinas, Cavite undergo a comprehensive five-week learning course. The program aims to elevate their skills and facilitate employment opportunities.
Women in need
This program welcomes women facing physical or psychosocial challenges, those caring for children or partners/spouses with disabilities, and single mothers.
Enrollees have the option to select courses such as general virtual assistance, social media management and marketing, accounting and bookkeeping, as well as graphics design and video editing. These courses are led by trainers from FHMoms.
“This partnership strongly aligns with Life Haven CIL’s mission of advocating for disability rights and empowering individuals with disabilities,” said Karla Henson, VP of Life Haven CIL. “By offering online education, this collaboration fosters inclusivity in the digital workforce, benefiting women with disabilities.”
Successful graduates, equipped with connectivity support, capacity-building, and comprehensive learning content, will have the opportunity for internships. This hands-on experience will enable them to further their skills in their chosen fields and establish connections with potential employers.
