Epson, a printer manufacturer and electronics company, recently released its first Sustainability Report for Southeast Asia, emphasizing its commitment to environmental and social impact in the region.
Covering markets like Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam from April 2022 to March 2023, the report underscores Epson’s commitment to driving positive change in the coming years.
Epson aligns its efforts with five key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relevant to its operations:
1. Decent Work and Economic Growth
2. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
3. Responsible Consumption and Production
4. Climate Action
5. Partnerships for the Goals
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
In the Philippines, Epson significantly reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations by adopting renewable energy, decreasing emissions in production, and minimizing them throughout the value chain. In January 2021, Epson’s factory in the Philippines was the first among Epson’s manufacturing factories in Southeast Asia to begin operating at 100% renewable energy ahead of the 2023 global deadline. The company’s local initiatives focus on supporting communities, promoting workplace diversity, and providing equal opportunities.
“At Epson Philippines, we are fully committed to creating a lasting positive impact on our environment and society,” said Masako Kusama, president and director, Epson Philippines Corp. “Our Sustainability Report demonstrates our dedication to driving sustainable practices and innovative solutions that benefit not only our customers but also the communities we serve.”
Local collaborations
Epson collaborates with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) on marine conservation projects in Southeast Asia, including coral reef and mangrove restorations. In the Philippines, it supports the Mangrove Restoration Project in Palawan, aiming to restore biodiversity and empower local communities in resource management.
Epson’s innovative technologies, such as Heat-Free inkjet and EcoTank printers, reduce energy consumption and carbon footprint significantly compared to traditional printers.
Epson’s digital textile printing technology minimizes excess production and water usage, improving environmental sustainability in the textile industry. Positioned to transform local industries, Epson Philippines aims to drive sustainability while maintaining performance standards.
Epson Southeast Asia continues its focus on sustainability within its operations, value chain, and through collaborations. By engaging countries across the region, Epson endeavors to create a lasting positive impact on the environment and society.
