Insurance company Pru Life UK is bringing its Adopt-a-Madrasah program to more Muslim communities in Mindanao, strengthening its commitment to financial inclusion through its Takaful initiative.
The program’s learning modules will soon be introduced in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga, aiming to help more students and teachers gain skills in financial literacy, digital technology, and climate and health awareness.
In October 2024, Pru Life UK started the Adopt-a-Madrasah program with three madaris in Davao City, supporting more than 450 students and teachers by providing school materials.
“We are excited to bring the Adopt-a-Madrasah program to more Muslim communities in Mindanao and help more students and teachers appreciate the importance of financial security, technology upskilling, and climate and health preparedness,” said Atty. Paul Mandal, senior vice president and chief legal and sustainability officer at Pru Life UK.
Program reaches more schools this year
This year, the insurer hopes to reach about 1,500 students and teachers across nine Islamic schools. The program is carried out in partnership with international non-government organization Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST).
The Adopt-a-Madrasah program focuses on three key learning areas. It introduces students and teachers to Shari’ah-compliant financial services and solutions to promote financial inclusion. It also trains teachers in basic digital literacy and financial technology applications to improve classroom learning. Another part of the program teaches the impacts of climate change on health and finances, encouraging climate resilience in communities.
