Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) has introduced its Tap-to-Phone payment solution to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines.
The feature turns any NFC-enabled Android smartphone into a secure point-of-sale (POS) terminal, removing the need for traditional card readers. It can also generate QR codes and electronic receipts to help businesses manage sales and payment records more easily.
“This isn’t just a payment tool,” said Reggie Cariaso, president and CEO of RCBC. “It’s an equalizer. It’s a way to bring more people into the formal economy, to help our small businesses grow stronger, earn faster, and serve better.”
RCBC said the new service is part of its push for financial inclusion, giving even small vendors a low-cost way to accept digital payments.
“With Tap-to-Phone, we’re breaking barriers that once seemed impossible,” said Arniel Vincent Ong, president and CEO of Credit Cards at RCBC. “Imagine this: with just a smartphone, a seller can now accept card payments, safely and instantly, without the need for bulky terminals, costly hardware, or complicated setup. This is not just a convenience. This is a game-changer,”
During the launch, 25 accredited Mercato Centrale merchants demonstrated the service by accepting Mastercard and Visa payments through smartphones, allowing customers to tap their cards or mobile wallets directly on the device.
